My work explores the intersection of the familiar and the fantastical through what I have come to call whimsical realism. Over the years, I have searched for language that adequately captures the range and character of my work. While rooted in realism, my paintings often move beyond straightforward observation, incorporating elements of playfulness, imagination, humor, and the unexpected. “Whimsical realism” ultimately feels like the most authentic way to describe this balance between careful observation and imaginative interpretation. I move between highly detailed, carefully observed realism and more whimsical elements that invite play and imagination. Sometimes the detail takes center stage; other times, unexpected or fanciful elements lead the viewer somewhere beyond the ordinary. I work in art series, allowing me to explore subjects and ideas from multiple perspectives and develop visual narratives over time. As an independent artist, I value the freedom to change direction, experiment, and explore my artistry fully. At the same time, I am deeply committed to the ideas that inspire each series, allowing them to develop with intention and purpose. My independence gives me the space to follow an idea more deeply, refine it, and see where it can lead rather than feeling confined to a single style or approach. Ultimately, I want my work to encourage curiosity and wonder. I hope viewers recognize something familiar within each piece, but also discover something unexpected—a moment that invites them to pause, look closer, and imagine their own story.
